Before discovering CrossFit Flourish, I was overweight, lethargic and totally confused about what to do about it. I had heard a little about CrossFit before and when I saw the advertisement for Crossfit Flourish in the local paper, I contacted them straight away. I was met with friendly enthusiastic people that are extremely passionate about helping people with their fitness, no matter their starting point. I was totally wrong in thinking that you had to be fit to start. From day 1, I was made to feel very comfortable and all workouts were scaled to my fitness level.
Since my very first workout, I have not looked back. My increased fitness has not only helped me during my workouts, but in everyday life. From my day to day activities involving running around after my two young children, to other things such as being able to give water skiing a try as I am now strong enough to pull myself out of the water back into the boat, CrossFit has given so much back to me. Since I started in November 2014, I have also dropped two dress sizes which has given me a massive confidence boost as well.
Joining Crossfit Flourish has been one of the best decisions I have made in my life and I would highly recommended it to anyone wanting to start their fitness journey.
Since joining Crossfit Flourish a few months ago I have a new found love of exercise. Working full time and raising a family is a full time job and I found going to the regular gym a little tedious, doing the same workouts every day. At Crossfit Flourish the workouts each day are different and stretch you to your limits. The trainers are amongst some of the nicest people I’ve ever met, always eager to assist you with your workouts and make them manageable and accessible no matter what your fitness level.
I just recently faced a small health scare and the trainers have been fantastic supporting me through that and watching me closely at the box enabling me to ensure exercise has been part of my recovery.
Everyone at the Crossfit Flourish box has made me feel welcome and part of an exercise community, where we all cheer each other on in every WOD and encourage each other to meet our ever changing goals. I have lost weight and it is certainly nice when other people start asking what you are doing because you look fit and healthy.
Joining Crossfit Flourish was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I now feel really bad if I can’t make it to the box at least four times a week and I look forward to my exercise at Crossfit Flourish. Lot’s of laughs shared with the other fantastic members of this box as well. My husband and sister are now members as well and I would highly recommend the Crossfit Flourish Box to anyone, regardless of fitness level or ability.
WOW!!! I’m having a lot of WOW moments lately and this one, for me, is a big one!
1 year ago today, I walked into my first ever Crossfit box, Crossfit Flourish & did my very first Elements Session.
I had no idea what to expect, I didn’t really know what Crossfit was, I had read up on it a bit, but didn’t fully understand what I was getting myself into, I was super scared, nervous and just absolutely terrified!!!
I had been thinking about starting Crossfit since December 2014, it took me until March 2015 to actually gain the courage to do it, before this I really hadn’t done any exercise at all.
My first ever WOD was a 12min AMRAP which consisted of running, Goblet Squats, Ring Rows & Push Up’s
I didn’t run very far that day, the running was a killer for me, I managed 3 rounds, with my push-up’s being done on a 30” box. This AMRAP is one that we re-test regularly to see how far we have come. This is one of my favorite workouts, as I can see how much I really have improved. Today, I can now do this workout RX+, running the whole way, using heavier weights & doing my push-up’s on the ground.
When I first started my crossfit journey I struggled to do anything with a 7kg barbell, now I can confidently lift 40kg’s overhead and just last night I completed 45 Reps of 50kg Dead lifts & Hand Stand Push-up’s, this is not something that I would have even dreamed of being able to do.
In the last year I have also competed in a few crossfit comps, also something that I never dreamed of & the big one, I am a part of the 2016 Crossfit Games Open, I watched the games in absolute awe last year and quickly became ‘addicted’ to crossfit, hoping that one day I too could be a part of the open….Dreams do come true!!!
I know that I have come a long way from that shy, scared & very unfit girl walking in to the box for the first time, I have made so many wonderful friends; everyone is so friendly, supportive and encouraging of one another & I couldn’t be happier.
Love my crossfit family xo
I joined Crossfit Flourish in November 2014 and 6 months on, I am absolutely loving it!
The trainers are amazing! Always encouraging, supportive and focussing on pushing you to be your best and reach your goals. It’s a really friendly environment where there are no egos, it’s all about encouraging each other and enjoying the results that come with each workout. Regardless of fitness level, there is always a workout option so you can keep bettering yourself. I feel fitter, stronger and healthier than I ever have and I love that I can record my results after each workout to help reach my goals. The workouts are different every day so I never get bored.
I would definitely recommend Crossfit Flourish to any one regardless of your age or fitness level, it’s a positive life changer 🙂
Having an active, adventurous nature, I have always enjoyed a challenge but consequently, this also means that unfortunately I also get bored pretty quickly. I’ve been a member of a gym since my teens. During this time, I’ve joined in on all the different fitness classes, played around with all the various gym machines and probably run around the world a couple times on those treadmills. Every new trainer, new program and new class got me motivated for a little while, but I’d just find myself bored again. Like a hamster on a wheel, going nowhere, not achieving my fitness goals and not seeing much reward for my hard work.
I’ve always been intrigued by this “CrossFit” I’d been hearing about. Having also done Bootcamp in the past, I heard that CrossFit is like Bootcamp but just more intense and only reserved for the “crazy fitness freaks” and definitely not for the faint-hearted. To be honest, this put me off as I thought I wouldn’t be able to keep up, even though I was super keen to try it out! It sounded like something that would keep me motivated and coming back for more. So there it sat, on my bucket list of things to do ONE day when I was fit enough, strong enough, game enough.
“CrossFit is coming to Jimboomba!” I felt an excitement stirring as I read this – my opportunity to trial CrossFit free of charge and without any obligation if I didn’t enjoy it – and right in my neighbourhood. I couldn’t make excuses anymore, I needed to suck it up and just give it a go now! Surely I wouldn’t be the only one who was intrigued but scared at the same time? I signed up for the introduction course at CrossFit Flourish called Elements where us Newbies would all receive training on the fundamentals of CrossFit – weightlifting, gymnastics and metabolic conditioning. Here the trainers demo’ed the various movements and tirelessly corrected our technique over and over until we hit it just right. I found myself doing movements I’ve never heard of and weights I’d never attempted before. Indeed I was challenged! But it was NEVER boring! Every session was different with different movements and new challenges. I quickly found that CrossFit is designed to meet everyone’s fitness level and capabilities. Every movement has a scaled option to suit you personally, so if you don’t have strict toe push-ups, you first build your strength on the wall, then onto a high box, a lower box and then bang them out on the floor! With recording our scores after each session, we can clearly see our progress for the various movements and weights lifted. The trainers and fellow CrossFitters are some of the most supportive and encouraging team mates I have come across. Everyone wants to see you excel and achieve your goals and we all work together. No one finishes a WOD alone. There they all are standing around you trying to catch their breath but still cheering you on – to that last rep – and celebrating together at what we have just achieved. Another seemingly crazy WOD under the belt. Yay!
I must admit that I have felt the fear rise up inside me plenty of times when I hear what the Workout of the Day (WOD) is, but I found this has grown me to be tougher emotionally and mentally too. When my head is telling me “that is crazy, you can’t do 100 push-ups, 100 squats and 100 sit-ups”, I have learnt that I actually CAN! In turn, its helped me embrace what scares me and believe in myself. I can start seeing a physical change in myself that I have never achieved in conventional gyms. I have a level of fitness I never thought I was even capable of. I’ve also noticed the change that functional fitness like CrossFit has on my horse riding and competitions. It also helps me keep up with my 2 energetic little boys. I just love it. I’m never bored, I’m always pushing to achieve the best version of myself. I ALWAYS feel great after a WOD. Most importantly I’m surrounded by a supportive, caring community of trainers and friends.
If CrossFit is on your Bucket List and you are also wary of trying it like me, all I can say is just give it a go! No matter your age, situation or fitness level. I haven’t looked back – I’m sooo pleased that I have found that special something that will keep me fit and healthy and that could never ever be boring!
